Assessment Services for Students
Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Assessment Team

Student evaluations are done by the Centre's Assessment Team. This team includes an audiologist, psychologist, and educators who specialize in the evaluation of academic and language skills of students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Depending on the needs of the students, the team may also consist of other educators with expertise in the development of children with multiple disabilities, those who are deaf-blind, and in career education. Referrals for assessment are made in collaboration with the APSEA itinerant teacher, the parents and the public school staff.

Before the student comes to the Centre, team members receive written reports and completed information forms from parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in the student's educational program.

Testing procedures may be conducted either orally or visually as the student requires.

Length of Assessments

Most educational evaluations are completed in 1.5 school days. Career evaluations generally require 1.5 to 3.5 days. Each assessment is followed by a case conference.
