How to Obtain APSEA Service for Students
who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
Contact the Department of Education, Student Services Board, in the province in which the child resides and request referral forms. When returned to the provincial supervisor for students with hearing impairments, an assessment date will be scheduled in conjunction with the referring school principal. To optimize the benefit of the supervisor's assessment with the child, all pertinent information concerning the pupil (e.g., hearing report, achievement records, psychologist assessment results) should be readily available.
The provincial supervisor should have an opportunity to meet with the student's teacher(s) and parents. Following the assessment activities with the student and meetings with teachers and parents, preliminary plans to provide services will be discussed.
