Preschool Services for Students
who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Referral for Preschool Services

Services are available to preschool children with a diagnosed or suspected hearing loss who live in the provinces of New Brunswick or Nova Scotia.

The Preschool Education Parent program is designed to meet the individual needs of preschool children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their parents. Through regular visits and support in preschools, a trained parent educator works with the family and other professionals to create the optimal learning environment for each child.

The program assists in building a communicative system for the child who is deaf or hard of hearing and the family. Natural parent-child interactions and conversations are used to encourage normal language development. With appropriate and consistent amplification, the child is taught to use and develop his/her residual hearing. Effective language practices are incorporated into daily living activities which help create a natural, stimulating home environment.
