New APSEA Superintendent Appointed

The Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA) is an interprovincial co-operative agency established in 1975 by joint agreement among the Ministers of Education of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island.

The board of directors of the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA) has hired leading educator, Lisa Doucet to be its new superintendent.

“We are pleased to have Ms. Doucet taking over as superintendent of APSEA. With more than 20 years as an educator, five years as Superintendent of a Nova Scotia school board, and a passion and commitment for truly meeting the needs of students with exceptionalities, Ms. Doucet will be an exceptional leader for the organization,“ said John McLaughlin, Deputy Minister of Education in New Brunswick and chair of the APSEA board of directors.

Ms. Doucet holds a Bachelor of Education in Primary Education from Memorial University in Newfoundland; a Masters of Education in Special Education and a Masters of Education in Leadership and Administration from Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.

Ms. Doucet comes to APSEA from the Tri-County Regional School Board where she has been superintendent for five years. Prior to that, she held several positions within the Board including six years as coordinator of student services, severe learning disabilities specialist and teacher. She has taught core French, English, social studies and high school mathematics. Doucet worked closely with principals, teachers, parents, students and outside agencies during her years with the Tri-County School board.

“I am honoured to have been selected as the new Superintendent of APSEA. I look forward to working with the APSEA team to build on the excellent work currently happening to support students and families” said Ms. Doucet.

Ms. Doucet’s transition to APSEA will begin in the near future.
