Keyboard Shortcut Guide



The following is a list of frequently used shortcut keys that are available when using Windows based systems. For a more detailed list of shortcut keys for Microsoft products go to the Microsoft Accessability page


Alt+Tab - Move through open applications
Alt+F4 - Close open application
Alt+letter - Opens menu option associated with letter (f - file; e - edit)


Ctl+A - Select all items in an open window
Ctl+B - Apply or remove bold formatting from selected text
Ctl+C - Copy selected text or item to Clipboard
Ctl+E - Centre justify paragraph or selected text
Ctl+Esc - Selects the Start menu
Ctl+F - Opens Find dialogue box
Ctl+I - Apply or remove italics from selected text
Ctl+L - Left justify paragraph or selected text
Ctl+N - Open new document
Ctl+O - Opens the Open File dialogue box
Ctl+P - Opens Print dialogue box
Ctl+R - Right justify paragraph or selected text
Ctl+S - Opens Save dialogue box
Ctl+U - Apply or remove underline from selected text
Ctl+V - Paste selected text or item from Clipboard
Ctl+X - Cut selected text or item to Clipboard
Ctl+Z - Undo last command
Ctl+Alt+Del - Opens Close Program dialogue box
Ctl+F4 - Closes active document window
Ctl+Tab - Moves through tabs in a dialogue box

Windows logo key - Opens Start button
Windows logo key+Break - Opens System Properties dialogue box
Windows logo key+E - Opens Windows Explorer
Windows logo key+F - Opens Find: All Files dialogue box
Windows logo key+M - Minimizes all open applications
Windows logo key+R - Opens the Run dialogue box
