Understanding the World of Work | Grades 6-9

Together we will dive deep into the world of work and get a better understanding of skills needed to be a good worker and team member.Strategies for organization, advocacy, and ways to be a part of our communities will be explored. We will explore the different strategies and accommodations that you are using on a daily basis. This program will also focus on effective ways to communicate, investigating assistive technology

Part 1

In this workshop, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Identify a variety of skills for independence (e.g., chores, paid/unpaid work).
  • Describe ways of contributing to the community.
  • Explore personal responsibilities (e.g., chores and schoolwork) and self-directed goals.

Part 2

In this workshop, students will have the opportunity to:

  • List the similarities between the responsibilities of a student and the responsibilities of a worker
  • Identify the responsibilities that students must practice to succeed in middle school and explain how they are similar to or different from responsibilities in elementary school and high school.
