Policy Statement
The Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA) recognizes the interests of the organization with respect to APSEA’s corporate brand in all communications applications, in all media are best served by maintaining a singular, professional identity.
Definitions
Brand – A brand is an organization’s reputation, and the emotions associated with that reputation. Brands are built by corporate behaviour, language, and visual communications intentionally developed to influence public perception positively. Strong brands are clear, consistent, and easily identifiable.
Communications Applications – All things done by, or associated with, the organization in the distribution of information including, but not limited to, print, digital, video, photography, signage, etc.
Logo – A logo is part of a comprehensive visual identity. It is a graphic mark, emblem, or symbol used by an organization to aid and promote instant recognition. Logos are either purely graphic (symbols/icons) or are composed using the name of the organization (a logotype or wordmark).
Visual Identity – A visual identity is an important part of a well-developed brand. It consists of the visual elements an organization consistently uses and how these elements are applied in different media. Visual elements may include a logo, typography, photos, textures, patterns, and colour palette, to name a few.
How these visual elements are applied to an organization’s website, brochures, signage, and promotions also influences the way an audience perceives an organization.
Policy Objectives
This policy is established to ensure the appropriate and consistent use and application of the APSEA logo and other visual elements. It also ensures that a consistent and professional brand is used in all communications applications, in all media.
Application
This policy applies to all APSEA employees, volunteers, and Committee members and any individual in a contractual arrangement with APSEA.
Policy Directives
- All communications applications for, or on behalf of APSEA, must comply with the APSEA brand with respect to use of the APSEA logo and other visual elements.
- Use of the APSEA logo or brand must follow the requirements outlined in the APSEA Brand Guide.
- For any use of the APSEA logo outside of APSEA and its related committees, permission must be obtained by written request to the APSEA Superintendent or their designate.
- Failure to comply with this policy will be assessed by APSEA and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.
Accountability
All APSEA Employees
APSEA employees are responsible to understand and follow all APSEA policies and documents related to the APSEA Brand.
Superintendent/Directors/Supervisors/Managers
As members of the Leadership Team, these individuals are responsible for implementing APSEA’s operational policies and any applicable documents. Members of the Leadership Team will take reasonable measures to bring this policy to the attention of all employees and to ensure directives are being followed.
Any known instances of non-compliance with APSEA’s Brand Policy will be addressed.
Given APSEA’s scope, some violations may go unnoticed. Employees should be aware that this does not mean APSEA condones unacceptable use.
Monitoring
- The Superintendent or their designate will review this policy annually.

This is an operational policy designed to supplement other APSEA operational policies and is not intended to replace or preclude them. If a situation occurs where there is a conflict between application of this operational policy and any other APSEA operational policy, the policy most specific to the situation will apply.
