ASL for School Staff – The Basics (Self-Paced Online Series)

Are you a teacher or school staff supporting Deaf/hard of hearing students? Ready to build stronger connections with your students through sign language?

This 4-week ASL program is designed for teachers and school staff who want to build communication confidence and create more inclusive classrooms. Each week, you’ll receive a short lesson led by our ASL Specialists. Lessons include essential signs, common classroom phrases, and practical tips you can use right away.

No previous experience is needed - just curiosity and a willingness to learn. By the end of four weeks, you’ll have a stronger foundation in ASL and new tools to support meaningful communication every day.

Participants in this program will have opportunities to practice:

  • Greetings and checking on a student (good morning, what's wrong?)
  • Safety and emergency signs (fire alarm, lockdown)
  • Transitions (zip up your coat, line up)
  • Directions on the playground (beyond NO! and STOP!)

Audience: School-Based Staff
Language: ASL with English Translation
Program Contact: Sheri Stevens - Program Specialist
Program Length: 4 Lessons

Schedule

  • A self-paced online series where participants receive one lesson each week by email.
