Speech Acoustics Matters For LSL (Listening and Spoken Language) Learners

Audience: Speech-Language Pathologists and APSEA ESTs-DHH

Program Length: 3 sessions –these sessions build on each another, so it will be most beneficial for you to attend all three sessions.
Facilitators: Sherryl Eatmon (Education Support Teacher – DHH) and Shirley Corbett (Education Support Specialist – Speech-Language Pathologist)

Session 1

In this session we will review the importance of speech acoustics, how to read an audiogram, how to use the LMH screener and discuss a case study.

Session 2

In session 2, we will talk about the importance of DIP (duration, intensity, pitch) and the 6dB rule.  We will connect auditory perception to the development of vowels and consonants in spoken language and apply what we discussed to a case study.

Session 3

In this session we will talk about strategies that can be used to facilitate listening and spoken language, will look at some task error analysis of sound errors, the Auditory Learning Guide and continue with our case study.
