Get comfy, grab your imagination, and join The Story Squad- where every story takes you somewhere new! Each week, we’ll dive into inspiring tales filled with adventure, courage, and heart, then explore topics like self-awareness, friendship skills, coping when things don’t go as planned, and understanding our feelings. You’ll also have the chance to hang out with a mentor who has low vision and meet special guest speakers who will share their stories and wisdom. It’s a welcoming space to connect, reflect, and grow stronger together- one story at a time.
Learners in this program will have opportunities to:
- Practice skills for deepening friendships through story-based discussions.
- Learn and understand others’ perspectives.
- Build empathy by recognizing emotions in story characters.
- Reflect on personal strengths, emotions, and decision-making through guided prompts.
- Develop strategies for expressing opinions and advocating for their needs.
- Learn from Blind/low vision mentors and guest speakers with lived experiences.
- Discuss how emotions and self-regulation strategies can support confidence and independence.
