Story Squad is an online program for students who are blind or have low vision. Through engaging stories, conversation, and movement, students explore important topics like friendship, emotions, confidence, problem-solving, and speaking up for themselves — all in a way that feels fun, safe, and supportive.
Learners in this program will have opportunities to:
- Build confidence in making friends and interacting with others, self-advocacy, decision-making, flexible thinking, and social communication through guided discussions, real-world scenarios, and peer learning.
- Reinforce that there is no single “right” path.
- Learn to discover what works best for them and to trust their own problem-solving skills.
Audience: Grades Primary to 6
Facilitators: Emily Atkinson, Education Support Teacher – Social Emotional Learning (EST-SEL), Jessa Carr, Education Support Teacher (EST) and Jen Fancy, Education Support Specialist – Blind or low Vision Mentor (ESS- BLV Mentor)
Program Length: 3 weeks (no group on November 11 for Remembrance Day)

Group A - 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. AT (9:30 to 10:15 a.m. NT)
Group B - 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. (11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. NT)

Registration
When registering and choosing between Group A and Group B please take the following into account. Group A is intended for students learning skills similar to those in primary to grade 3 and Group B is intended for those developing skills similar to those in grades 4 to 6. Registration is not restricted to these grade ranges but this will help us in planning meaningful activities matched to the group’s level of skill development.
Online learning programs for children and youth are designed for students who qualify for APSEA services and registration must be completed by the student's APSEA Educational Support Teacher (EST) / itinerant teacher.
